International Symposium „Das Gewaltpotenzial der Religionen“
23. and 24. October 2013 at Künstlerhaus Hannover, Organizer: Ina Wunn. Co-organizer: Faculty of Philosophy, Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University Hanover and Mediengruppe Madsack.
Judaism, Christianity and Islam do not tire of emphasizing their quest for peace. They demonstrate their commitment by theological reasoning – preferably
well-founded – and by championing numerous committees and organisations for the inter-religious dialogue. Focal point is always the message of and for peace
advocated by these religions.
The political and social reality, however, is not considered in these ultimately well-meant discussions; the reality in which resentments or even pure hatred determine the position towards the respective “other” – one need but consider the latent anti-Semitism proliferating in Germany amongst Christians as well as Muslims. Contributions to this symposium will discuss the position of these leading religions towards violence – also in connection with political and social conflict.
